Over a single night of closure on the M6 Toll Northbound carriageway, a Eurovia Surfacing gang carried out the Rolling Crown installation.

As part of the initial design process the works area had already been surveyed. This information was then transferred onto the ground for the night works to begin.

The team began laying the road, starting on lane 3 and moving across to the hard shoulder. This was done to ensure there was always a minimum of 2 lanes open and running at any.

The works involved:

  • Design and mill the existing carriageway across all 3 lanes and the hard shoulder
    • Re-level
  • Drive the paver diagonally across the carriageway over 160M linear, to form the rolling crown - depths were to 160mm in the centre
    • Re-level the works area
    • Install Surface Course (Cemex Viatex 14mm PSV 65)
    • Re-level to confirm design was delivered
    • White Line and stud
    • Remove Closure

James Hodson – Director of Motorway Operations & Facilities, said: “The rolling crown modification rides exceptionally well, joints are perfect and all complete well within time. Please pass on my thanks to all involved, it’s much appreciated.”
