Poynters Road Carriageway Reconstruction

The works to be delivered along Poynters Road required the closure of the 2km main link and residential road whilst the works are constructed. Eurovia worked closely with Central Bedfordshire to undertake the necessary early contractor involvement elements of the scheme including the planning, programming and communication with the local community. The main works involved the insitu recycling of the carriageway sub base, then laying a new binder and surface course. All this undertaken whilst still providing access to over 400 properties along the route of the works.

In order to achieve this we worked with key supply chain partner Stabilised
Pavements Ltd, a market leader in insitu carriageway reconstruction. The insitu recycling process uses a machine to grind and crush the existing sub base, this is then mixed with water and re-laid all by the one machine. This is then compacted and overlaid with the binder and surface courses in the traditional manner.

We received praise for our communication approach  and engagement and consideration of the local community around us, this is demonstrated in the following extract from the Considerate Constructors Report, in which we scored 7 out of 10 (Very Good) for “Securing Everyone’s Safety”;

“There is a very close interface with the public, warning signage, TMP, controlled and manned crossings, red / white road barriers are all in place and residents’ vehicles are escorted at 5 mph to their properties; temporary ramps are provided as required. Full time security operates, there have been some incidents reported by the Gatemen on near miss cards and the Police are informed and preventative action taken. TSCO is based on site; he liaises with the Client and joins daily briefings to communicate with Gatemen and the  residents.”

Good relations were maintained throughout with residents, who  took advantage of a road closure for a summer street party. Eurovia and its partners provided a generator, traffic management and on- site assistance on the day. We also ensured that staff from Eurovia attended to talk through the completed works and capture feedback from the residents, which was very positive.
