Darren Tovey Awarded HTMA Developing Professional Award

Darren Tovey, Contract Manager for Ringway East Midlands, has been announced the winner of the Highways Term Maintenance Association (HTMA) Developing Professional Award.

The HTMA aspires to be the leading voice of the highways term management and maintenance industry. The Award is an excellent opportunity for aspiring employees who wish to expand their knowledge and experience of highways maintenance, to progress their professional development and to raise their profile within the industry.

The purpose of Darren’s project is to make a step change in the way the industry deploys and manages road closures. The main outcome of the project will be to change the perception and understanding of the traveling public, in relation to both their behaviour and attitude towards these closures, and to provide a much safer working environment for HTMA member employees.

Darren received a £500 cash prize for his project ‘Improve the Deployment and Management of Road Closures’, which he will develop with the support of Ringway and HTMA. A group of representatives from other member companies will be on hand to provide information and advice and he will also be invited to four HTMA committee meetings.

John Nicholson, Regional Director for Ringway, said: “The award is fantastic recognition of the professionalism and work Darren has put into bringing to life the company’s commitment to improving the health and safety of our roadworkers. The further development of this project should lead to industry-wide improvements, which Ringway is fully committed to delivering as part of our wider work with the HTMA.”

Darren is Chair of the Traffic Management Working Group for Ringway. He has recently passed the Traffic Management Designers Course for the Institute of Highways Engineers and has attended a professional interview to receive a Foundation Professional Certificate in the Design of Temporary Traffic Management along with an Eng Tech application. This year he is hoping to attend the intermediate level courses and if successful, apply for IEng registration and an Intermediate Professional Certificate.

New Spray Injection Patching Service: a low-cost solution to pothole problems

Eurovia Specialist Treatment (EST) is launching a new Spray Injection Patching (SIP) service to clients looking for alternative low-cost solutions to large-scale pothole problems. SIP is a cost-effective method of prolonging the life of a road with medium to severe deterioration, by sealing the surface to prevent further water ingress, the leading cause of potholes and surface defects. SIP not only eliminates the surface defect, but also minimises further damage by allowing clients time to identify further potential treatment options.
