Eurovia Contracting Highly Commended at prestigious CIHT Major Project Awards for £25m Hull public realm scheme

Eurovia Contracting has been Highly Commended at the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) Awards for a multi-million pound project that transformed Hull city centre.

The public realm scheme carried out by Eurovia Contracting connected separate phases of the city’s development and involved the redesign of 14 streets and four public spaces, including key retail areas, a civic square, historic town streets and the iconic Trinity Square, which is home to Hull Minster.

It was Highly Commended after being shortlisted in the Major Project category at the CIHT Awards, which took place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on 14th June.

The scheme has resulted in 88% of local people increasing their visits into Hull, while it also contributed to an 83% rise in people visiting the city centre in the evening, with more pavement cafes and meeting areas, increasing business and job opportunities.

The judges commented: “A unique large-scale, and transformational, streetscape project that was delivered professionally and with extreme care in a difficult urban environment. This has brought real advantages both to businesses and the whole city community and was a major contributor to helping raise Hull's profile in its year as UK City of Culture in 2017.”

Neil Huntington, Eurovia Regional Director, said: “This project has had such a positive impact on the city, and instilled pride and enthusiasm in the people of Hull, reconnecting them with their city.

“I am delighted that the judges recognised not only the quality of these works, but also the positive social impact it has had in regenerating the city for those who live, work and visit there.”

Eurovia Contracting received further recognition in the Collaboration Award category, as part of the Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA) Medium Scheme Framework 2 (MSF2) which was Commended for its entry.

The MHA works together to improve performance, share best practice and make efficiency savings in the delivery of high quality highways, public realm and infrastructure schemes through the use of agreed best practice procurement and project management principles.
